“The real opportunity for success lies within the person and not in the job. In the end, we only regret chances we didn’t take”.. says Vamini Sethi a financier by profession at a prestigious global MNC in Gurgaon who has just concluded her journey across Sri Lanka riding a total of 1111kms , with 12000 feet climbing over a span of 9 days. She is an energetic mountain biker, an auto rally driver, an eager trekker and keen a natural life photographic artist whose photos have been featured on National Geographic.
Vamini had undertaken this ride in order to break the stereotype around women in the country with mountain biking as a medium. According to her , it is very regular for ladies’ fantasies and desires to be overlooked while juggling between a vocation and family – and this is the generalization that she wants to change.. Greatly enthusiastic about the sport, she wants to promote the green and clean sport among women as well as motivate ladies to take after their fantasies while dealing with a profession .
This expedition with a motive to empower and inspire women was supported by HASTPA and sponsored by UT Edge..The heroic Vamini started the expedition on the 14th of June 2015 from Colombo and went along the coastline covering the beautiful countryside , the surfing capital of Sri Lanka , the old capital of the island country , riding through wildlife sanctuaries meeting the most welcoming people all along their ride on two wheels and heading back to Colombo and completing their Ride across Sri Lanka – A full circle!!
Vamini was constantly supported by Ashish Sood , a specialized backer to Vamini , a mountain biker himself , he was her moral and technical support for this journey. The adventurous duo went every mile with a smile on their face despite the challenging conditions , the heavy winds and the scorching heats and completed the quest with smiles on their faces.
“The journey of Miles n 1000 Smiles : I feel on top of the World , 1111 kms, 12oooft climbing in 9 days across Sri Lanka. A personal challenge of testing the limit of my own endurance before hitting 30 next month . These have been the most beautiful 9 days unlike anything else I’ve experienced. A sense of fulfilment that cannot be expressed . Ashish Sood When I first met you, I knew an adventure is going to happen. The moments are made n will be cherished for a lifetime.I would like to thank all my friends family n sponsors for the support n encouragement that helped us live up to this dream.” said Vamini Sethi – The daredevil who completed the full circle around Sri Lanka and achieved a milestone.
“Skin is burnt, muscles are overworked , body is tired ,spirits are high , the mind is elated . We have finished riding around the island and what an experience it was….The most incredible countryside, the warmest people and the most welcoming smiles. Proud to have achieved more than what we set out for. 1100 km without any rest days would definitely be one of the most memorable experience of life. Vamini Sethi You’re a total rock star. You did this with ease …the most incredible Video crew who.helped us document this and our driver ajit smile emoticon … A big thank you to all the support we got – HASTPA for helping us execute this , UT Edge and Hero Cyles for supporting this initiative , and the whole cycling community in Sri Lanka for invaluable support and cycle Chan for accessories . This is the first chapter of many more such experiences to come. Sri Lanka you were incredible. I’ll be back :) ” Says Ashish Sood , a constant support to Vamini and a daring individual who rode across Sri Lanka in tough conditions!
